The Mechanic will perform mechanical maintenance on natural gas gathering and processing compression equipment to ensure safe operations and optimize throughout.


  • Safety first culture including compliance of all associated (company, federal, state and local) regulations and policies
  • Ensure 98% mechanical availability on all-natural gas compressors
  • Provide technical knowledge and decision-making capabilities to troubleshoot a variety of natural gas engines and compressors
  • Responsible for major overhauls on a variety of engines and compressors
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as the expander, natural gas engines, turbines, compressors, and pumps, which requires medium to heavy lifting; Maintenance includes, but it not limited to: change gauges (temperature, pressure, etc.)
  • Remove and replace electric motors and belts; filters, oils & other lubricating fluids; gaskets; valves
  • Ensure proper housekeeping is maintained
  • Change out suction/discharge valves on compressors
  • Clean out level sight glasses on all vessels
  • Change out control valves as needed
  • Secure all types of tubing and piping as needed
  • Replace fuses
  • Approximately 85% outside operations in all types of weather and 25% in office environment filling out paperwork; also requires entering information into MAXIMO database; creating and closing work orders in MAXIMO
  • Recording weights and measures (mic readings) of internal components of engine and compressor frames and enter into MAXIMO for historical records
  • Continually tracking and updating maintenance schedules related to compression equipment
  • Maintains good economic thinking skills while working under tight budgetary demands
  • Establishes and maintains a near perfect driving record
  • Collaborates well with direct supervisor to develop procedures and ideas on improving overall maintenance program


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a mechanic’s role in the natural gas or closely related industry or a combination of an Associates Applied Science degree with minimal experience
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate in various situations
  • High Integrity
  • Waukesha and Caterpillar maintenance experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent vehicle driving record
  • Candidates must be available 24/7 for on call and emergency response


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; and is required to reach with hands and arms above his head as well as stoop and kneel to reach items below his normal reach
  • The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
  • The employee is occasionally required to use sense of smell
  • Performs maintenance as necessary with medium to heavy lifting requirements; employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus


Work Environment

  • Works unsupervised
  • Occasional long hours due to tight deadlines
  • Must be able to remain calm and focused during emergency situations
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work in high, precarious places
  • Work near toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment may be above 90 dBA
  • Candidates must reside within 30 miles response time of their area
